Missed Forecast

The weather people missed the forecast. We were forecast to receive between 8 and 12 inches of snow, which never happens in Arkansas. We have maybe an inch on the ground. All of the schools are closed. Never underestimate the power of a snowy forecast in Arkansas.

Alphasmart Dana

I just bought an Alphasmart Dana. I love it! It is such a cool little gadget. It's a portable word processor that runs the Palm OS. It has a full sized keyboard, but a tiny little screen. It runs for up to 30 hours off of one charge. Pretty cool. I like it a lot. It has no wireless connectivity, so I don't have to worry about getting distracted when I'm working on my fiction.

The Final Twelve

I may start watching American Idol now. I may not. This is the first season since #2 that I haven't watched obsessively. I just don't think their is a Clay Aiken in the bunch this year. I'm not even sure that there is an Elliott Yamin.

There is some talent, but none of it seems untapped or rough. They all seem slick and way too professional for a show that is supposed to highlight amateurs.

Maybe I'm just getting jaded. Seven years of AI may be getting a bit much.

Am I the only one that's tired of AI?

Bomb in NYC

Wow- people are getting crazy. Somebody threw a bomb at the Times Square Military Recruiting Office. Ostensibly, the point is that violence is wrong and that we should pull our troops out of Iraq. I agree with both of those sentiments-- but throwing a bomb? Isn't that like endorsing the death penalty to show that killing is wrong?

I'm glad no one was hurt, though. On a more selfish, note, I'm glad it was over before my trip to NYC in April.

Snow!

We seldom get snow in Arkansas. When March 1 came and went without any of the white stuff, I felt certain that we had escaped the bullet this winter. It was 73 degrees Sunday. Monday night we got four inches of snow, but the temperatures jumped up to the 40s, so by that night it was gone. I really thought that it was winter's last gasp, but oh no! We are forecast to get eight inches of snow tonight! What in the world is going on with our climate? It's March in Arkansas. We shouldn't be getting snow.

Mineral Make-up From Elf!

I don't think it's a secret that I LOVE mineral make-up. If I could, I would go through the streets armed with a flat top brush and a ar of makeup and apply it to every person I meet. Seriously, why would you want to put anti-freeze on your face?

The biggest problem that a lot of people have with mineral make-up is the price. I know that the first time I saw BE I was shocked. It looked great, but $60 for a 2 month supply? I'm a beauty junkie, so I ordered it anyway and I was hooked, but I'm a poor freelancer so I knew something had to give. Fortunately, I found a brand I love for a price I can live with, but it's still not as cheap as drug store make-up. If you have been waiting for uber-cheap mineral make-up, ELF heard your cries. They have mineral make-up for $5. It's still not as pure as I would recommend- there are a few too many ingredients for my taste-- buy FIVE DOLLARS!

If you've ever been curious about mineral make-up, now is the perfect time to try it.

Of course, you could spend a little more and buy Everyday Minerals, which is better for your face! I had to get my little plug in for my fave company!

David Archuleta and Jason Castro

I haven't been watching AI much this season. No one has really grabbed me. But from the clips I've seen and the buzz, it looks like we may have the first all male finale since Ruben and Clay. David is a cute little thing, and is extremely talented, but I'm not sure about him yet. There's something that I can't put my finger on, but I'm not sure that he will survive in show business.

Jason Castro is different enough to capture the votes of the misfits, but pretty enough to capture tween votes is something happens and David A tanks.

I watched Michael Johns last night, too. Eye candy and that's it. I thought he was horrid. Everyone raved about him, though. Maybe they should have watched with their eyes closed. It made a difference.

Sometimes...

Sometimes, being a freelance writer sucks. Like now, basically. I, against my better judgment, took on a client that demanded a large number of words per day on topics that required extensive research. The pay per word was pitiful, but it was steady work, and I like the steady money.

But...

With the amount of words and the amount of research, there is no way that I can write really good, clean, well-edited copy. He has pointed out errors, which makes me mad because- uh yeah, there are errors. I wrote 7500 friggin' words on an unknown topic in 24 hours. Yeah- there are errors. Sorry about that.

I proof read. Really I do. But I'm not a machine. I'm not perfect. I think I may take my talent and move on to greener pastures.
